3 Common Mistakes People Make While Trying To Stay Healthy On Vacation - SBack

Exercising on holiday can be difficult to stick with especially when you’re fully in vacation mode. Once you start relaxing eating good food and enjoying slow days it’s easy for workouts to disappear from your routine.

“The biggest thing to remember is that a holiday is meant to be a break from normal life. It’s your time to relax switch off and enjoy yourself” says Jessica King trainer at F45 Training Mill Hill.

“You shouldn’t feel guilty or pressured to work out while you’re away. Personally I enjoy moving my body on holiday because I don’t like sitting around all day and it helps me feel good. But at the same time I know rest matters too.”

a few days away from training won’t erase all your progress

“Taking a short break from exercise can actually help your body recover. You worked hard for your holiday so enjoy it properly. Your routine will still be there when you get back home.”

Here are some of Jessica’s tips on common mistakes people make while trying to stay active on holiday and how to keep moving without ruining the fun.

Mistake #1 You’re exercising at the wrong time of day

If you’re travelling somewhere hot then timing matters a lot. Exercising during the hottest part of the day can leave you feeling drained dehydrated and overheated very quickly.

It’s much better to work out early in the morning before the heat kicks in or later in the evening when things cool down. Even a light walk or short workout at those times feels much easier on the body.

Mistake #2 You’re going overboard on holiday cuisine

Most people want to enjoy food on holiday without thinking too much about diets and that’s completely normal. Holidays are meant to be enjoyed.

Still there’s a difference between enjoying yourself and overdoing it every single day especially if you still want to feel healthy and energetic while away.

A simple way to balance things is by choosing lighter meals during the day drinking enough water and not constantly snacking between meals. You’ll usually feel better and have more energy that way.

Try local fresh food that you normally wouldn’t eat at home or dishes you’ve never tried before. Most places always have healthier lighter options available so you can still enjoy your meals without feeling heavy or uncomfortable afterward.
